Fall Thesis Awards are presented

Ten EECS graduate students were selected this fall to receive department SM and PhD thesis awards. These awards complete the roster of awards given by the department to students in the spring. The fall term awards were presented at the Nov. 18, 2013 faculty lunch. See the awards presentation (pdf) for the complete list including thesis titles. Congratulations!

Winston Chern received the Ernst A. Guillemin SM Thesis Prize for Electrical Engineering (first prize). Prof. Jesus del Alamo (left) Student Awards Chair announced the awards. The William A. Martin Memorial SM Thesis Prize for Computer Science (second prize) was awarded to Aaron Sidford (second from left). Sidford's supervisor, Prof. Jonathan Kelner is pictured on the left and Dept. Head Anantha Chandrakasan and Prof. Jesus del Alamo appear to Sidford's left.

The Jin-Au Kong Doctoral Thesis Prize for Electrical Engineering (first prize) was awarded to Han Wang (second from left). His supervisor Tomas Palacios appears on the left and Dept. Head Chandrakasan and Jesus del Alamo are standing on the right.

The Second Prize for the Jin-Au Kong Doctoral Thesis Prize for Electrical Engineering was awarded to Jouya Jadidian, whose supervisor is Prof. Mark Zahn (unable to attend).

Yang Cai received the George M. Sprowls Scholarship Fund for PhD Thesis in Computer Science (honorable mention). His supervisor, Prof. Costis Daskalakis is pictured left.
