Bill Thies’01, MEng ’02, PhD ’09, has received a 2016 MacArthur Fellowship, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced today. Thies is one of 23 writers, artists, and scientists recognized for their exceptional “originality, insight, and potential.”
Through his 99DOTS initiative, Thies is working on a tuberculosis medication delivery system designed to make it easier for patients to take a full treatment regimen, which is essential for preventing the spread of drug-resistant strains of the disease. The system is now being scaled up across India.
Thies, a leader in the field of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D), is currently a senior researcher at Microsoft India.
