Guy Bresler has been named the Bonnie and Marty (1964) Tenenbaum Career Development Professor.
Bresler’s research focuses on the foundations of high-dimensional statistical inference, specifically on graphical models, as well as on concrete application domains including recommendation systems and computational biology. His main objective is to obtain engineering insight into problems of societal and technological significance by formulating and solving mathematical models. His research combines tools and ideas from statistics, computer science, information theory, and various branches of mathematics.
Bresler joined the MIT faculty in September, 2015 as an Assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a Core Faculty Member of the new Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS). He is also a principal investigator in the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS). Bresler received his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley in 2012, and completed a postdoc at MIT prior to joining the faculty.
The Bonnie and Marty (1964) Tenenbaum Career Development Chair was created through the generous contribution of Bonnie and Marty Tenenbaum to support faculty whose research lies at the crossroads of computer science and biology.
